Kambura-ini Mixed Secondary School is a day school. It’s a single streamed school with an enrolment of 137 students, 10 teachers and 4 non-teaching staff. The school is in Naromoru location, Kieni East Division Nyeri North District. This is an Arid and Semi-Arid land (ASAL) on the leeward side of Mt. Kenya. The staffs have no sanitation facilities and are thus forced to cross to the church for the facility which has raised a conflict between the school and the church. This poses serious health risks among the staff.

KISI cooperates with CKDAP in an effort to coordinate complementary dry areas resource management programmes and activities. To this end the 2 organisations undertake common development projects, exchange information including technical backstopping and formation of strong Common Interest Groups as a means of empowerment and strengthening of Value chain process. KISI undertakes the role of training community on Rural Based Financial Management. In the future, KISI and CKDAP are also planning to develop and implement common projects which will benefit the community in formation of Community based Cooperative Societies to help in marketing strategies of their produce.

KCDF
KISI and KCDF recognizes that for Kenya to achieve meaningful development, the contribution of the youth must be fully harnessed. Given their age, numbers and resourcefulness, the young people of Kenya represent the nation's best hopes for development.
The KCDF overall objective of the programmes is “to strengthen the inclusion, participation and empowerment of young Kenyans in development processes”.

KCDF has trained KISI’s staff by building their capacity to deliver services to young people based on their own priorities. Capacity building support - This entails the provision of technical support, mentorship and management capacity building of the Youth groups. Facilitating youth training on social accountability, effective civic engagement and leadership as well as participation.

DFS
DFS and KISI has been working closely to improve the management and governance of the organization and groups working in rural and remoter areas, DFS has developed simple tools for evaluating the impact on the performance of the groups.  Other tools assist in group formation and governance, book-keeping, internal control, audit and other key activities.  The tools are targeted at both the groups themselves and the NGOs promoting them.   A key feature of the tools developed by the project is their simplicity and brevity.  Local stories and illustrations (see below) as well as participatory rapid appraisal (PRA) matrices are used in the facilitation of the tools. Adult learning and facilitation techniques have been incorporated to make the trainings more effective.

The initial stages of the project are focused on the group level with tools primarily aimed at small community groups such as ROSCAs (Rotating Savings and Credit Associations) and ASCAs (Accumulation Savings and Credit Associations) but also to bigger groups like small village banks.  More advanced versions of the tools for organisations such as village bank management companies and community based Savings and Credit co-operatives will also be developed.
