BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Kiini Sustainable Initiative (KISI) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
operating and located in Nyeri town, Mang’uru house, at 1st floor room
9. The Organization was founded in 2005 as a youth group and was later elevated
to a Community Based Organization. KISI was born from the merger of youth
groups where leaders exchanged ideas of trying to solve problems facing community
including unemployment, HIV/AIDS stigmatization, value addition of locally
produced goods, and gender inequity.
The Organization advocates
for the gender rights of each and every individual person in the society as
such, the organization works with the women, men and the disadvantaged people
in the society like orphans, physically challenged people and the aged.
The Organization assists
the community to achieve their dreams through participatory rural appraisal
by;
• Training
• Community mobilization
• Initiation and implementation of income generating activities
KISI has identified 40 women groups and 5 youth groups that are committed
and active with an average number of 22 members per group. The main activities
undertaken by the organization are:
1) Agri-business and environmental projects
2) HIV/AIDS issues
3) Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC)
4) Gender empowerment
5) Micro-credit facilities
VISION
To empower the community
to be able to implement their own sustainable initiatives through revealing,
mobilizing and utilizing of the hidden resources in order to meet their social
development challenges.
MISSION
To work aggressively
towards the elimination of gender violence, stigmatization of HIV/Aids infected
and affected orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) and poverty eradication
by reaching the poor and the very poor with a range of financial services
to enable them to realize their potential. |
