Micro -credit

Microcredit has not only made youth and women more productive, it has also empowered them. As a result youth and women are now integrated into socio-economic activities, contributing to family income and decision making and exercising more control over their fertility, which allows them to take better care of their children.Microcredit is an important financial instrument in economic activities in the society.

Microcredit is not merely an instrument for credit extension to the borrowers, It is a movement to empower the youth and  women--to eradicate poverty, improve their quality of life, and build their capacity and awareness and to integrate them economically and socially into the mainstream of the economy. The benefits of microcredit are evident in the socio-economic transformation of rural areas.

Success
KISI’s microfinance efforts have been very successful and have been integrated into other programming areas such as Small micro-enterprises, agri-business and agro-processing, HIV/AIDS and emergency mitigation. There has been significant impact not only at the group level but also at the community level, where it has been able to assist other vulnerable community members, including Squatters, orphans, vulnerable children and households affected by HIV.

As an added benefit, the principles of group formation and group cohesion, which are taught as part of our microfinance work, have helped to strengthen and empower communities in the legitimacy of their projects. KISI has been working closely with Decentralised Financial Services (DFS) in training the Community Based Financial Organizations (community groups).
